2007 Old Vine Zinfandel "Wisdom"

Our 2007 "Wisdom" is 92.5% Zinfandel and 7.5% Petite Sirah. This is a very small vintage with only 200 cases produced.

 
The Zinfandel component is 85% - 2007 Brown Zinfandel aged in 2-4 yr Old oak barrels for 20 months , and 7.5% - 2009 Brown Zinfandel aged in New Oak for 6 months. The combination of extended barrel aged 2007 Zinfandel with a small amount of the youthful exuberance of the 2009 vintage gives us our strongest Zinfandel offering to date.

Dennis has been working with Zinfandel from the Brown Vineyard for many years. This fruit consistently yields intense spicy flavors and full body that ages well. Donald Brown has been running vineyards since he was a child and he is now 80 years old!

We have also blended in 7.5% Petite Sirah from the Upper Home Petite Sirah Vineyard planted by the Mendocino Wine Company for their top end projects. This fruit is not for sale, but here again is where Dennis being a Mendocino fixture gave us access to fruit not on the open market. Blending in a small amount of Petite Sirah into Wisdom really added weight and enhanced the finish of our 07 Zinfandel. This site is a great bench at the foot of the steep mountain that forms the Western edge of the Ukiah Valley. Everything in this 100 acre vineyard has been planted for the use of the Mendocino Wine Company so we thank them for graciously letting use this fruit.

07 Wisdom Tasting Notes:
Distinct "briary" character on the nose followed by spicy clove and cardamom. Solid blackberries and loganberry on the flavors with an underlying streak of French oak. Medium weight with great flavor persistence and excellent balance. A wine showing promise of a long evolving bottle life that should mature into a silken and memorable example of the best that can be in Zinfandel. It should be a great match for summer barbecue season, lamb, game, beef, red sauce pasta and other full flavor dishes.
